You know it never fails to amaze or rather infuriate me that BANS are inforced! especially when they Ban a technically NON EXSISTINT BREED!!! there realy is no such thing as a "Pitbull" It's a generic term for a variety of dogs!
See Bulldog and Terrier crosses are considered "pits" because they were bred soley for the "sport" (though a sport it is NOT) of fighting. These crosses can be divided into three similar but different breeds, the American Pit Bull Terrier, the American Staffordshire Terrier (or AmStaff for short), the Bullterrier and the American Bulldog.
Now what most people fail to relize is that since these "pits" were originally intended to kill one another....
Humane aggression COULD NOT be tolorated!!! These are VERY powerfull and tenasious creatures so a Breeder of "fighting Pitts" DID NOT want ANY of his dogs to "turn" on him there for dogs that showed aggression towards people not just other dogs were in most cases PUT DOWN therefor NOT allowed to procreate!! Years and years later you have a dog that may or may not be animal agrresive but do to years of "selective breeding" is most likely NOT people aggresive,
however on a side note in recent years, certain people took it apon themselves to try and rehone this aggresion towards humans, these people are the same ones who give other "pit" owners a bad name and yes they are probably drug dealers and the other types mentioned, who were for some unknown logic decided that watching these dogs tear each other apart wasn't "amusing" enough instead they want to see this dog tear into a person (maybe a rival or enemy, who knows?)

Even so MOST ALL of these dogs "born to die" LOVE AFFECTION! they truely want nothing more in the world than be a much loved family pet! It is true that some are simply unsafe but the RATIO of unsafe "pits" is very low despite all the hype surround them!!! In fact here's a stastic for you of the top 5 dog breeds who end up biting a CHILD resulting in a hospital visit, cocker spanials and chiuaha's are listed as well as several other "lap dogs" who would never in a hundred years have their name come up for a BAN!!!!

I owned an American Strafforshire named Petey, BEST DOG I'VE EVER HAD!!! Friendly, very well behaved, good with kids and even though when I first got him he was animal aggressive but I patiently reconditioned him, and he became a well rounded family member living with other dogs, kittens and horses. And he was well behaved towards dogs he incountered elswhere. but I was constantly having to deal with peoples misconseptions about him. I was also constantly correcting them when the refered to him as a "pit" Because even though technically he fell into that catagory like I told many people "I WILL NOT call him a "pit bull" because he will NEVER see a fighting 'pit' so long as I have something to say about it! Also I just don't like the way it sounds, his name is PETEY, nothing more nothing less"

Oh yeah back to the "name" issue as I stated earlier a "pitbull" is a name NOT a breed, well to add insult to injury many dogs who have NO relation to any of the 3 classifications falling under 'PitBull" are MISTAKENLY called "Pit Bulls"! For example I currently own a Rottwieler and Boxer mix, however when I take him out I repeatedly have people trying to tell me he has "pit" in him even though he doesn't (Not that it should matter if he did...)

And last but not least there is a web site that challanges people to correctly identify a "pit bull" PLEASE vist http://www.mnp13.com/FindThePitBull/FindThePitBull.aspx
and challange those who want to ban "pits" to do the same
Cause how can anyone decide to BAN something when they aren't even sure which one it is?!?!?

P.s the site listed above is just one there are several others like it if you run a search for "find the pit"
