Subject: Am I asking for trouble?

Okay, here goes what is probably a stupid question but is there any way to teach a 9 month old male (uncut) Pitbull that my kids want to rescue from the street, not to eat my small, not very macho male dog?

The pitbull in question is a good looking dog, wonderful with the boys, okay with other dogs - at least the dogs he meets in the street - but whenever we try to introduce him to Bob (my little dog) he growls ferociously and if not repremanded (voice only) he goes into the whole lip curling, snarling routine. When you tell him off he backs down but as soon as the little dog walks past, he starts again.

The kids really want this dog, we lost our English Staff earlier this year and this boy Pit looks a lot like and English Staff (only bigger). We saw this dog, wandering loose and the kids at school say his owners moved away and left him.

Don't want to be big bad Mom and say no to this dog if there is a way to make this work. Any suggestions, comments etc?
