Subject: Getting Sick Of...

I heard it again tonight. The church did a thorough cleansing in the '80s. Of course, the one who said that was NOT in the church at the time.

You know what I think? When the scriptures were accorded relevance, there were certain people who they (the scriptures) made feel guilty. Now that the scriptures are not regarded as "binding", they make certain members feel more worthy. No wonder the present beliefs are accepted so readily.

The new belief system: He loves you no matter what you do. He loves me "just the way I am."

[1 Ne 5:2] And it came to pass that I said unto them, that I knew that I had spoken hard things against the wicked, according to the truth; and the righteous have I justified, and testified that they should be lifted up at the last day; wherefore, the guilty taketh the truth to be hard, for it cutteth them to the very center.

[Hel 5:37] But behold, if a man shall come among you, and shall say, Do this, and there is no iniquity; do that, and ye shall not suffer; yea, he will say, Walk after the pride of your own hearts; yea, walk after the pride of your eyes, and do whatsoever your hearts desireth; and if a man shall come among you and say this, ye will receive him, and ye will say that he is a prophet;
[Hel 5:38] Yea, ye will lift him up, and ye will give unto him of your substance; ye will give unto him of your gold, and of your silver, and ye will clothe him with costly apparel;
[Hel 5:39] And because he speaketh flattering words unto you, and he saith that all is well, then ye will not find fault with him.

Now doesn't that sound familiar! What do those scriptures remind you of? What ever happened to "repenting" of your sins, and feeling the joy that knowing you have been forgiven brings?

Joanne
