Subject: Hello from PEP

Congratulations on a good idea and thanks, Katie, for letting me know about the Message Board. It's great to see what everybody's doing now. In fact, we are trying to make this easier by adding an Alumni web page, which I am presently working on, to our physics department website. We'd like to include a link to your message board on the new web page.

The idea is to help our grads keep in touch with each other and with the department, and to let them know about new developments here. We would also really like to get some career profiles from you to let our undergraduates and prospective students know what kind of jobs they can expect when they graduate. Students are always curious about the day-to-day activities on the job, the opportunities for participating in forefront research, and in seeing some applications for what they've learned. (You probably remember wondering this yourself!) Pictures, if you have them, would be great! Job 'vignettes' will be categorized and placed on a separate page with a direct link from the physics department main page.

We are also adding a page geared to the high schools that will include a list of people who would be interested in giving talks to high school students about studies and opportunities in physics and engineering physics. If you would like to add your name to the speakers list, or have some ideas for things to add to the high school page, please let me know.

We would also welcome any other ideas you may have on what you would like to see on the new alumni page.

I'm sending out a letter to all alumni (did you know the physics dept has 962 alumni?) to let them know about this. The alumni web page will be online by the end of the summer.

Cheers,
Angie
