Subject: Penang

Have just spent a busy 'meeting week' in Penang. The meetings started from 8 in the morning till 8 in the evenings. On the last day, when everyone was half-dead, I had a chance to take a walk in the city (Georgetown).

I have been to Penang twice (in 1995, shortly before I came to Japan) and fell in love with the city at first sight, particularly after staying in Kuala Lumpur for a few days. Penang preserves an old (colonial) atmosphere: a relaxing town with good food. It also reminds us of how life would be in our fathers' generation.
