Subject: A rather busy winter

I visited Taiwan last week: for a conference and a bird festival held at Guandu near Danshui (Now the road signs have all changed to the Pinyin system). My hotel was just across the road from the National Taiwan University. The streets near the main gate of NTU haven't changed much. I could still easily find my way. Just the shops have all changed. Couldn't believe it has been more than 20 years.

I arrived in Taiwan on the US President Election Day. At mid-night we learnt the result - disappointed.

I have never had high expectation to the Americans, but was still surprised to see half of the population is being so dumb (that is the most polite term I could think of). Moral value is said to be a big issue in this election - that is exactly why Bush should not be re-elected! How could you call a liar and a warmonger a moral standard? Just because he (allegedly) quit alcohol and keeps talking about the God (that is as real as the Elf in 'Lord of the Ring')? Most muslims do not drink, and also faithful to their God. So what's the point of the war?

I know there is no use to talk to those born-again Christians. They should all belong to heaven - I hope they will go there the sooner the better. The world will be more beautiful to us.

Oh, why shoudl I bother with a big idoit and a big gang of idoits?

Back to a better world and better topics. I am going to Korea next week, after the trip I will go to Kyushu for yet another meeting. In late December I will fly by Osama's favorite airline (UA) back to Hong Kong.
