I live in western Victoria. My Aloes lose their flower spikes when frosty too. The plants seem to cope ok, but its the tender buds and stalk that seem to suffer. My Aloe plicatalis flower in late winter-spring. The reason they don't flower in summer is that they are dormant in summer.
