That is very intresting, I was just thinking about the sybolism of the borg yesterday. You must remember, educated free thinkers have been against organized religion for years, the problem is, their are very few free thinking people. As you said, you where brain washed from the point of birth basically, do you know how hard that is to over come? It will get very, very, nasty if religion gets backed into a corner. I could see the remaining sects becoming very much like cults, and carying out serious terrorist actions, or even before it gets that far, going with Government in a serious, tyrantical, power play(this would seem more probable).
