I agree with you in hi-c.
The problem is as much one of PR as it is with perception.
The press gets everyone so stirred up with reports (much of it unfounded and nothing more than rumor) that all perspective of the Sport is lost.
PR=Promotion= Making what happens that is good known and well thought of. The press with their constant harping have driven some to change their Perception to see a doper under every helmet. It just isn't so, and the statistics don't support that contention.
I think we can acknowledge we have a problem in all sports with Cheaters... nothing new here if one were to look back in the history of sports professional or amateur.
But to paint the whole of the peloton black on the backs of a few is irresponsible.
I just would like some of us to get all this into perspective.
Cycling is still to me the greatest sport on the planet.
Do we have a problem with cheaters? yes we do. Do we know how big that problem is in actuality?
No, I don't think so, but we should do something to find out how pervasive it is and quantify it.
Then we should develop a plan to handle what the actual problem is with dispatch.
That said it does not good to increase the hyperbole on the a scene few have a totally realistic grasp of. All this attention in my opinion so focused on the few blaming the many does more harm to the sport than good.
Some who would line their own pockets or secure power to themselves would like nothing more than to lead a witch hunt and in the end not create a rebirth of the sport clean but do irreparable harm.
Much of the press acts without responsibility regarding this as it sells magazines and lines their pockets.
I just thought we could all gain a bit of perspective and give the sport its due.
