Subject: Mapei - TDF 2000

Reading the live ticker of the Vuelta i thought this was interesting -
"I was watching an old Tour de France tape yesterday from the 2000 edition, and it was interesting to see where a lot of riders were then. The old Mapei squad was a true powerhouse. Their big sprinter Tom Steels took a couple of consecutive stages, and he had quite a powerful leadout train. Who were they? Stefano Zanini, Paolo Bettini, Fred Rodriguez, and Max Van Heeswijk. Nice leadout train. Manuel Beltran and Michele Bartoli were also on that squad, as were Chann McRae and Daniele Nardello"
Interesting mixture of riders in hindsight. What year did Steels get thrown out for throwing the bottle?
thanks
pedallo
