No one doubts Horner is the strongest domestic USA pro. He'd be a great domestique in Europe. But he doesn't want to be a domestique. He says he wants to be a leader. If he'd won the Tour de Georgia (his own Tour de France), then maybe some European team might have gone for him. But against Armstrong and Voigt, Horner showed he was as strong as a bull but they still kept him at arm's length with ease. And Armstrong was a long way from peak fitness then. However good and strong Horner is, there are plenty of guys out there who are better. And that's the real reason why he's not being asked to lead any European team.
