Hi BV,
it is worth noting that Tom Lehrer, the American physics professor, turned protest-song folksinger, gave up singing protest-songs, at least a decade ago. He went back to teaching mathematics.

In a recent interview, he elucidated his reasons for this.
Basically, he reckoned that irony lost its bite, when Henry Kissinger won the Nobel Peace Prize.
