I think that some people find themselves with haphap culture they are all mixed up. If they learn early enough the non melanesian habits it will be permanent, otherwise they may lose it again after they return home.

Speaking out and pushing aside is very common in cultures where there is lots of competition. Usually it is competition for jobs, money or status because the land has been lost ie the people are no longer land rich. People who grew up on the land and drew most of their life from it have no need to behave in such a way. Unfortunately sooner or later they become overrun by the landless (mortgaged) aggressive alternative and they end up losing. That is what is happening today in PNG.

Many of our people who have now grown up in Moresby have become landless more or less and they have had to adopt the strategy of push and shove. They are much more the kind to ask questions and be very dominant.

Is it really a good thing that all PNGeans become like that?
