Ralph... The old Goonie didn't mind 18 inches of grass that was about even growth, I Used to wish for the Dak at times when flying into Malalaua with the Twin Otter, they only walk through grass about a quarter of that depth, anything hiogher and they get a bit playfull and lay on their backs for a tummy rub... Typical of an otter? I have also had a Beaver under me, fly through a single HT cable down Milicent way, then strain the top few strands of a five wire rural fence. Spreading superphosphate down in the Southeast dairy areas... Frightened the shit out of me Ralph.. I also remember one time in the RAAF, in a Neptune, landing approach at Guam, very thundery local shit around the area, when the main (is it the VLF?) antenna , the one going from the astrodome to the top of the vertical stabiliser, snapped at the top end trying to get away from a big bright lightning thing, and proceeded to wrap itself around the tail plane.. I was sitting in a waist seat at the time and I thought the cable was going to come through and use me as an anchor... Yup, the things we do for the game we love eh? I havent even mentioned the time I was sitting in the super-hopper of a Tiger Moth in 1963, heading home at the end of a days work. The pilot found the engine suddenly very quiet and we went through a fence. He managed to select a gateway, but we still inverted.. Yup, shit runneth deep at times...
