The Mouse That Roared was an excellent film. Peter Sellers played many different roles in it. The plot was a sendup on the Marshall Plan. The Duchy of Grand Fenwick hoped to lose a war to the US which would make the US feel guilty about having hurt them so they would get a lot of money as foreign aid. When they invaded New York, the city had been shut down for a Civil Defense drill. All the people were in bomb shelters practicing for what to do if the Russians launched a nuclear attack. So when the Fenwickian army arrived they won the war.

Though it was a farce, the satirical content derives from the contradictions that BV has noted. America arouses contradictory feelings elsewhere in the world. America is admired for many things and despised for many of the same things often by the same people.
