Unless youre talking about the regular dot that is present during games and goes away when you turn down the brightness knob...that's normal.

I found the problem, I had adjusted the brightness with no effect, it seems the years of neglect had made the brightness knob somewhat twitchy, a little cleaning and everything is fine.

Hmmm, sounds like something to add to the Vec FAQ v.5.0...
Potentiometers are known to "weld" themselves in one spot due to to rest of the potentiometer oxidizing and getting crusty. Then when you break them free, the oxidation is so bad that it does not make contact.
Interesting fix BVZ.
