Authorities have found a 37-year-old woman in a house in the south-western Canberra suburb of Duffy. That brings to three the number of people who have died in the fires. Meanwhile, the Australian Capital Territory is bracing for a worsening fire threat this afternoon ahead of expected north-westerly winds. Up to 400 homes have been lost, after fireballs ripped through the city's western edge yesterday. But fire-fighters are anxiously watching conditions again this afternoon. The list of Canberra landmarks lost in the fires includes almost the entire ACT soft wood plantations, the Uriara and Mount Stromlo forestry settlements, and all Canberra's public health laboratories. Australia's oldest active observatory Mt Stromlo, has been extensively damaged in the fires.
