I've seen this happen both for me and other Imms had
noticed this. Not just a Southlands/Fourlands difference
but they would have two connections to the same MUD and
one would be severely lagged while the other is just
fine. I've had this happen a few times.

My theory on this is that every time you connect to the
MUD it sets up a route to take and then once the route
is determined it sticks with that route even though
it might lag up. So if you log in and your telnet session
routes you through Chicago down to Atlanta over to the MUD
and is fine, then your next session routes you through
St. Louis over to Atlanta it might start out fine but
then everyone in St. Louis starts downloading porn all at
the same time and that connection will start to suck.
And your first connection will be fine.

At least that's my theory. I remember way back when there
was a MUD I played at where if it started to lag I could
ping it and the lag would clear up.

So the only thing you can probably do is just keep re-connecting
until you get a good route.
