Subject: Advertising / influx of new players

Ok, a big thank you needs to go out to Alaire for this
one. She's put up the cash to get our MUDs advertised
on three seperate MUDding websites. The banner will be
viewed by at a minimum 20,000 views and should be up for
a month.

We're timing it so we hit the biggest weekend of procrastinating
MUDders of the year. Exam week. The second week in December
it should start up and will go for a month. We also will
get the first week of January which is also a good time
because people coming back to college have nothing to do
but play.

All the money's in, the banner's made, a special web page
was created so this is a go. I know I said it was in the
works about 6 months ago but this time it's certain.

So, what does this mean to the current players? This will
mean in a month or so we're going to have an influx of new
players. Players that will need some guidance by people who
have been around for a while. Players looking for leaders
that they can follow until they get on their feet.
Most importantly they'll be going by your example when it
comes to role-playing. The role-playing you display now will
be the definitive style for some time.

You don't have to change your characters to make things newby
friendly, just keep it in mind when you do things. Don't set
things up to frustrate people who are visiting the MUD for
the first time with things like setting up guards that block
multiple exits trapping people in a room or dropping multiple
items in the bar and leaving them there. Don't disregard
the few rules that are in the game, DON'T PLAY MULTIPLE
CHARACTERS (This means having more than one character, plain
and simple). You need to lead by example, don't just log
on and head out to powergame if there are people sitting there
in the bar. Stick around and interact, ask people about their
background, come up with your own character's background and
goals.
Try to think up some goals that you might want to play out
with the help of more people playing. House owners can throw
parties, people can have contests, whatever you want.

Basically, we should be getting a lot of players. My main
task is to clean up the code so it's stable. I'm calling upon
you as the experienced players of the MUD to give these
players a fun experience so they stick around and we can
keep a decent player base which will only add to the enjoyment
of the game.
