Of course.

Bookmakers? I didn't know this was even possible. Sweet.

I don't know where you've been looking, but I found it exceedingly simple to locate a book. It was more complicated to find a pen, but not insurmountably hard. I think maybe you haven't been looking lately.

Then PLEASE find a book and write his tale! If you experiment a little, you'll discover you can format books off-mud, then copy and paste. I'm not suggesting that RPing the writing shouldn't happen, it just makes a text that stands the test of time a bit better.
I tried to make a librarian once, but I realized it was a futile effort until more people wrote books, journals, stories. Heck, even archiving tavern board msgs would be pretty cool. There is also a major language barrier with writing and reading. It is just flat impossible to do either ("you can't do that" type msg) if you don't have 100% in that particular language, and I've never had a linguist character that made it to 100% - although I've tried.
I would be eternally gratified to discover one day that reading a "foreign" language had been tied into the speaking code, and you understood only as much as you could have understood it spoken. I think writing is okay as it is.
Of course, I haven't tried to do any of this in ages, so if it's already changed, please disregard =)
