I think you make alot of good points.
Another would be that although the economy is player driven, virtual npc's aren't being taken into account.

Bascially what is happening is that the economy is being funded by 8-10 pc's. ;) It's never going to work. Maybe something could be done to figure trends in spending and selling and enhance that in the current npc's that are running shops.

Also, I think that noble houses should be receiving a stipend of some kind so that they can pay people. If a noble is expected to live on what is only available for them to pick up in a shop, they will eventually run out of money and won't be able to hire or pay people to work for them.... at least in this current system. Which might be harsh and create some ammount of storyline, but more it seems it hurts the playability factor.
If there aren't noble Houses, the money has to go somewhere from virtual npc's. Be it a single dictator or a whole army.

I don't know for sure if that makes sense in the grand scheme... but the current system really doesn't work too well and makes it actually less conducive to roleplay because lots of people end up worrying only about having enough money to survive. Which is realistic, but not really playable.
Does that make any sense?
