Ahhhh....yes cabbage night back in the 70's. I can't get over how mellow both Cabbage and Halloween nights have become. It "used" to look like a war-zone Halloween morning. Now, I'll be driving to work and think; what the heck is going on? What's wrong with this picture? Halloween used to mean dark spooky streets. Now it's like lights-camera-action. Minivans equiped with a support team (hot chocolate, heat on, tv, vhs, radio, cd...) lining the street. My family and I live on a dark dirt road with about 15 house-holds close by. I take my boy (8yrs) trick or treating and it's great.....nice and spooky! We have become so over-loaded with information by the media that we are now, all scared. Back when we were teens, it was far more dangerous. Razor blades, rat poison, etc. Kids getting beat up all the time. Then coming home to get a good lick'n. I do enjoy these safe times. Enjoy the goods, I get at as much of my kids candy as possible.

Joe, you're right! And you know what else we used to do on Halloween night in Essex Jct. in the '60s? If we were trick-or-treating in a block or neighborhood that we didn't know as well, we thought nothing of going inside a strangers' house (usually just the living room/entryway) if they invited us in. I remember one house where this married couple oohed and aahed over our costumes and even asked if they could take our picture. Can you imagine letting your kids go into strangers' living rooms nowadays?! Not a chance. I found out later that that friendly couple was the Rathgebs, you know, the theater couple? Really nice! But they could've been anybody. We were so open and trusting then.
