Plans are underway for our 30th, yes, our 30th high school class reunion. Hard to believe, but it's only a few months away. If anyone has any photos from any of our previous class reunions and are willing to share them, please email them to me. If you rather snail mail them, let me know and I will give you my address. The sooner I get these photos, the easier it will be to put together a scrapbook. Keep checking in for updates for the reunion and if anyone has questions or comments or whatever, let us know. Oh.... the Us is Ana VanOrnum, Helen Bishop (Prakelt), and myself. This is going to be a great reunion!!!! Looking forward to seeing EVERYONE!

Kathie

Hey everyone...

Keep me in mind for this reunion. I will be in Maui on May 27 thru June 11. So pick dates other than that if you can.

Hey, didn't we have one of our classmates in Maui? Maybe we can meet while I am there...

PS. I have been busy making changes in my life. I have been doing Toastmasters for over a year now and have gotten involved in Landmark Education also.

George

Hello ??!!!! Is anyone out there?? It would be really great if we could get some dialog going in here. Even if it's to say "hey, I'm alive". Does anyone have any feedback on our plans for the 30th Reunion?? Are you coming??? This will be a great reunion. Many of us have grown kids, we have lots to talk about and it will be nice just to see everyone. Life is too short to just say, ugh, another gathering!! We are going to have a lot of fun, rain or shine. Great food, talented musicians, nothing fancy, just plain fun!!

So pipe in everyone and try to get excited for this... It's going to be FUN!!

SATURDAY, AUGUST 12, 2006
contact me, Kathie Cooke (Harton), Helen Bishop (Prakelt), or Ana Van Ornum.

change is good George!

And the date is August 12th. I don't know all the details, but it sounds like there's a good crew planning it so I expect it's gonna be the best one yet!

Maureen Purrington (Hennessy) wrote in from Hawaii a while back, as did Robin Morris, but it sounds like Robin may have moved to CA recently; I'm sure there's others. Looking forward to hearing from folks far and wide as more details come out here about the August 2006 event.

Glad to hear that things are going well for you George; two weeks in Hawaii!!

It's Veterans Day today and I'd like to pray for God's blessings on all the veterans and their families on this special day.

Tim

ok folks, don't be shy. It's 2006 already, so Let's weigh in here at this forum! The more that we hear from, the more that we can hopefully coax into attending in August. It's a domino thing. How about the California contingent? Tom? that's Keenan and/or Cutler to be precise. Then there's Tom Blair and Tom Mayer, just to mention some of the other Toms? I really didn't want to resort to name calling, but I can get the yearbook out if I have to! John? Bill? Jim? George? David? Marianne?

But seriously, Happy New Year!

Was planning on attending our class reunion but my husband has national guards that weekend, don't really want to attend by myself. Went to VT. in October, it had been 5 years since I had been home. Went up with my dad to check in on my grandfather, he will be 98 in March, still lives alone. The day we left was the first snowfall of the season, It was great!!! My parents moved to Knoxville, TN 2 years ago. I visit boysweekend often just to see the Vt. pictures and see what is going on. I have a picture of Mrs. Yates Kindergarten class, there are 6 kids that went straight through and graduated together. I thought it would be fun to post it but it does not come out real clear. Any suggestions?

Hi Laurie, I don't blame you for not wanting to come alone. Do you have any ties with any fellow classmates that you could hook up with?? Actually, I think we're all a pretty friendly bunch anyway. It wouldn't take much to feel right at home. The atmosphere for our reunion will be so casual, outdoorsy, fun, just plain a good time for everyone. It's going to be held in Fairfax at Sandy Terrien's home. She has a farm with a few cows, lots of trees, enough space for parking, tents, tables, music, and plenty of food. Wetherbee's will be catering. We have some great musicians in our class that will make the reunion a lot of fun, too. It would be so nice to see you and I know there are a lot of folks that would be happy to see you too!!

As far as your pictures go, you should ask Dave Prior on boysweekend. He's the photo guru. I'm sure he could help you with what you have. He might even be able to touch them up if they are blurry.

Take care and I hope you change your mind about coming to the reunion!!

Kathie :-)

Hi folks, Maureen and I are down south at Robins Air Force Base just south of Macon, Georgia. We will be moving to McGuire AFB NJ this summer. Hopefully we'll be able to make the reunion in Aug.

This is a great start! Laurie, Steve, Maureen and I heard from Jeff Kent last week too. Are you organizers hearing from many folks yet?

I got the kindergarten picture from Laurie and will get it to the webmaster to post here. I recognized Geoff Workman and Michelle Jangraw. I still can't believe that Tom Keenan was in that class.

So, will we be selling tickets for this event in advance? Are we having musical guests? People from other states needs to start making plans...WE need more details! I'm still interested in making calls to remind people and to get folks to send money. Don't forget to sign the guestbook! Where the heck is John Morris?

slow down! the posts are coming too fast people! I can't keep up with all the entries!

but seriously, this event will come and go in a matter of months and the question is will YOU be there?? We'll try to make sure some pictures get posted, but even better would be if you all could start talking it up.

Come on now, we've heard from Georgia, what about California? New Mexico? What about Washington state? I heard this was going to be a party for Essex Alumni? Does Sandy want to limit it to just 76'ers? We had around 60 at the 25th. If we're going to drive to Fairfax we outta make a day out of it? eh?

C'mon, committee, I know you all have families and responsibilities, but let's get some more information posted here...

Should we just say anyone who graduated from EJHS in the 1970's, or perhaps say whoever attended, married someone, or got kicked out at anytime during the '70's would be invited??? There was a whole bunch of kids that started at Essex and then got shipped over to Colchester... Shouldn't we make sure the Lt Governor and his brother the Brig. General get a special invite?

Roger Prescott said we could use the phones at Downs Rachlin to make some cold calls. ok, maybe we should just get Trey Anastasio to come out of retirement and forget the invitations altogether! I know if Patty (Moreau) Rooney got involved, we'd have a party!

Alright, I'll just shut up now and let other people talk...

It's so great to see everyone's message. I'm writing from Portland, Maine, my home for the last 25 years. I'm a registered nurse in Portland and sure hope I can get the time off to attend the reunion. I missed the 25th class reunion and felt bad about that. Thanks again for all the work in getting the 30th organized. Mary

Well, I've been following along silently through the past on Tim's site.. and here reading up on everything going on with our "old" class mates.I missed the last reunion due to health problems, but look forward to being there this year! Hope to see as many as can arrange the visit back to Vermont...and all those still in Vermont. Doc says I can Drive if I have a "Horse and buggy, and the horse knows the way home!" All plausible as I live in the sticks away back in the "hills" of Maine.(No real Mountains like Vermont!) Let's all get that
76'er spirit we're all suppose to have.
P.S. Surprized Tim recognized me with that Funky Hat I was wearing. Not even my wife did that!

Oh man I just got over here to see what was going on!
I've been missing all this chatter. VERY COOL to see names from the past and here what you guys have been up to. I'm back in VT now after 26 years of Virginia and it feels GREAT! I live next to Jon and Mimi (Nealy) with my wife and 11yr old son in Shelburne. Six years now here and still loving every day. I buy & sell antiques like I have for the last 35 some odd years.
I'll try and get to my web site to put up some new photos of Vermont for all of you out here that aren't close by anymore. Oh one other thing I'll drag out my old clogs, embroidered shirts and bell bottoms for the Reunion if I can find them, and guess what they all still fit me!

Class of '75 here. You guys are very cool to open up your reunion to other classes. I'm living in Minnesota but come to Vermont every summer, staying at the family cabin on Coates Island. This year we'll be there the last two weeks of July, so I won't be able to come to your party in August, but for anyone who's on the fence, I'd say don't be shy. I didn't know many of the '76 and '77 "kids" but now that I've attended the informal gatherings the last few summers, I have felt so welcome. Dave, Tim, Chick, Janice, Helen, Roy, every one of you boysweekenders are great.

Hi Brina,

Thanks for the plug for our party and our loose band of essex hooligans over at boysweekend.com!

I would never in my wildest dreams have thought I would be so active in high school reunion stuff back when I was actually in high school! I so couldn't wait to get out of there that I hardly even noticed the incredible resources all around us at EJHS. The athletic fields, the hockey rink, we even had some kind of greenhouse for horticultural education that I don't think I ever even went in.

I got an F in McGinty's photography class, senior year, because I was mostly out getting high, but we had all the equipment to do color slides and you name it. I was enrolled in college prep classes mostly, but somehow got directed into one full year of Jean-Claude Guion's building trades class, which probably saved my life. This was a two year program, mostly for kids who were not college prep, but Roger Prescott and I somehow got in for one year and we got to help build a house up off upper main street. This experience landed me a job in the trades out of high school, which later inspired me to get an architectural tech degree.

Ours was the first class ever, I believe that got a full four years at what they called then, the Essex Junction Educational Center. Today, I see the ads on television and it has an even fancier name, but it still provides a wide number of ways to get started in life. Growing up and watching the endless stream of IBM'ers going to work in the morning on my way to school, I remember saying a lot of bad things about that plant that made, who knows what over there by the river, but today I guess I owe a big thank you for much of my own success in life to International Business Machines!

Hi Tim,
I have to tell you that I think it's my sister's class, EJHS '74, that was the first to go all four years of high school in the "new high school." But definitely not your class, 'cause my class, '75, did all four of our years there.

I'm sure somebody knows.

I never thought I'd be one for Essex Jct. trivia. My father used to bore us to tears with his Essex Jct. history stories. I am only 48 and I hear myself doing it when I return to Vermont in the summers with my son. Somehow, he seems to find my stories funny, but I think it's more in the telling than in the content.

If I try to tell a serious story, it comes out like a stand-up routine, and if I try to tell a joke, I forget the punchline. Now that's something I inherited from my mother!

Anyway, you guys are a lot of fun and I'm glad I finally got to know you, all these decades later.

Hugs,
Brina

I was just checking to see if anyone was paying attention!

So, the first month of operation would have been Sept of 1970? ok, folks, we can figure this out...where were you in Sept. of 1970?

If you were in school anywhere in Essex Junction that year, there must have been more elbow room that Sept than there was the year before?

ok, I can't resist making one more plea for this site and for the upcoming alumni gathering out at Sandy's place in Fairfax this August!

I don't know about you all, but I keep getting these nagging, promotional e-mails from all these reunion.com places about inquiries from other alumni and such; I have yet to break down and actually pay for membership at one of these sites, but pray tell, if anyone out there has and they have something that we don't have here, please do pass it along!

It has been a joy to have people from the past visit this site and sign in or post messages and it has been free to come here! Yeah, Joe and I have had to keep the drug ads at bay, but otherwise there has been no nagging solicitations, except from me, and I do it for the fun of it, not for the money!

So Carlton, and all Essex alum and friends of, who visit here, do remember to put August 12th on your calendars and be sure to mosey on out to Sandy's place (if you haven't gotten a personal invite, I'm sure you can find it on the web somewhere - I won't post the location here to keep the riff-raff away). We'll only charge you $35 for some great food, fun and all the reminiscing you can put up with!

You can contact me for more details (i'm not actually on the planning committee, but have connections in high places) and I hope to hear from you and/or see you there!

hello reunion planners. the forum still isn't too active?

wondering if we should get joe to post a link to the details about the party; how much? where and when and so on? I know you did a great job with the invitations and I got mine. i know mine is somewhere around the house. I'm pretty sure it didn't get thrown away yet. it would be good to have the actual details posted on the main page here where it is easily accessible to all who may visit looking for reunion plans, eh?

Many thanks to Kathie, Helen, and Ana for all their time and work to organize the 30 year reunion. It was loads of fun and a real blast from the past seeing everyone. Some of you I haven't seen since Graduation night 1976. Wish I had more time to talk to some of you. I was kind of disappointed more people who live in the area didn't come. Maybe we can work on them for the next reunion in 2011. Wow we will be really getting old by then. Ha! Anyway Thanks again !!! Kathie, Helen, and Ana
