You say "others," and since I have used a Diablo microMax over the years, I will respond to the Diablo microMAX. It takes the same coils as does the LST. It uses only one-nine volt battery which may last for over 25 hrs, depending. About 17-18 kHz operating frequency.

Pole mount configuration only and standard coil only has a 3-ft cable. Complete unit about 2.5 or less pounds. Has a built-in-speaker. Can be broken down into 3-small pieces and rolled up inside of non-doubled sleeping bag or in a small back-pack with room to spare. Changing sensitivity does not affect the gb setting.

I would liken it to the simple "Heart" of any "pure" gold machine. Surface mount technology. I believe it is one of David Johnson's designs (?).

Has two independant manual ground balance pots which can be switched back and forth with a toggle. In a scraping or backhoe operation one gb can be set for the overburden and the other gb can be set for the bedrock.

The Operator Instruction Manual's "appendix" is outstanding.

For some reason Tesoro no longer makes the microMAX. However, I think there is a good demand for a used unit.

I think that that it is finally being recognized that the frequencies around 15 to 20 kHz good for low conductive gold in the more moderate mineralization.
