Frank in Oz,

I think there may be two variations of Infinium? The Ausie variation may be slightly lower grear (sensitivity) to handle the more prevalent "mineralization" as found in much of Australia than the version sold in the USA (??)

The PI-types as compared to the VLF-types now open up more potential ground to detect. In the past I have been more inclined to use any VLF-type in areas where I felt bedrock shallower; now with any PI-type I feel more inclined to move into the less hunted areas of deeper bedrock. (Note: I use/have access to different makes of both VLF-types as well as PI-types.)

Much of the Cordillera of the USA is not as heavily mineralized, but large pockets of "more mineralization" do exist. (I have never been to Australia but Cotton was one of my textbooks) Thus, the DD may be a better choice in Australia and the mono more for the Cordillera.

Also, I understand that there is a differece in USA and Australian machines; such as the underwater headsets are used in Australia and of course the difference in household electical voltage in recharging batteries.

I feel that headphones are critical; I do have a well-designed accessory pigtail adapter so I can now use other headphones with the Ausi-coil. I am reluctant to post any specific headset brand-names as everyone has different hearing loss/needs; but have found one particular headset that seems to be more sympatetic to my (unfortunately) severe hearing loss.

I also would like to mention that the Ausi coil is very light weight; thus, the stem is more stable when extended to the second in from longest setting. I use the third in, so it is not a problem with me. But could be for a taller detectorist.

I'm glad I bought the coil. It was not cheap and a gamble; but I trusted Phil; who I have never met.
