DARRYL,
The same thing, only I will stretch it out a little. Hunting the SW like you say, the VLF is out cause of the minerals in the ground. If you want to stick with a VLF, your Gold Bug is as good as any VLF. The Goldquest has not proven to be a top notch gold detector yet. Not too many coils (which you will need to be finding nuggets in different areas) available for it. Plus no ground balance. But most of the SW you can get by without a ground balance in a PI detector. The SD series are a good choice, many used ones for sale cheap ($1000 or so) They will get the gold almost as good as the GP series. The GP series are a little better on the small stuff and the real deep bigger stuff. Plus the GP Extreme has a smoother threshold than the SD's. And the GP 3000 has a smoother threshold than the extreme. Makes a big difference when you spend a few hours under the head phones.
Now I know I will catch some slack about the Garrett Infinium, but don't waste your money. Every one I know that had one, sold it! The hype about it is not all it is told to be. It has a weak main shaft, not as deep as an SD, eats up batterys, the discrimator is not to be trusted, no coils yet (been saying any day for over a year) and you will need different coils if you are serious about finding gold. It would probably be a good water detector, which is its main purpose in life.
Go look on the many Garrett forums, not much being said any more.
Hope this helps. So if money is a problem, the most bang for your buck would be a SD2200 if you want a auto ground balance detector that will get ya some gold. But don't forget its not easy pickins out there no mater what machine you get.
STEVE
