Hey Jim,
Thanks for the kind reply!! Yes, I'm aware of the other really neat skills Sam has. I had the opportunity to visit with him a number of times at his home in San Diego and saw some work he was doing on a sailboat of a goodly size. It was absolutely incredable the level of craftmanship I saw there!!!! He put a lot of that same craftsmanship into the beautiful Mahogony bellows drywasher he built for me and I paid a hefty price (for 1996) for it too. However I've never regreted the price nor what I got for that price, for one second. He told me to tell anyone that wanted another one like the one he built for me "I can't remember where I got it" :o)

I really hit some hot spots with that drywasher the same year I got the drywasher from Sam. He asked me to bring it with me when I met him later that same year. I went up to the Colfax,CA area on invitation from Sam to learn how to river snipe. He's a hard task master but by heaven I learned a lot from the three days I spent in the water with him. He wanted me to show Jerry (Forgot the last name)the Mahogony drywasher in action and some of the gold I had found with it. Jerry is the man that builds the "Gold Buddy" line of drywashers. Jerry's comment was "That drywasher sure won't miss much"!! I was most pleased by his comment and I'm sure Sam was too. Jim, I also have all of Sam's books. He had just come out with his book on 'River Snipping" and I got a personally autographed copy from him while there. Jim when I retire in about two years I plan on spending a great deal of time metal detecting as well as drywashing in the Randsburg area. I'd like to meet up with you while there so I'll stay in touch. I'll be posting from time to time so I'll be in touch along the way on the forum.
