The DFX is a fine detector, with wonderful features. But as a nugget hunter the GMT or MXT far surpasses it. In this case it is not a matter of operating frequency; it is a metter of sensitivity to small targets. A nugget has to be around 7 grains in weight before the DFX, with the 950 coil, can even sense it. With the same size coil, an MXT can find a nugget as small as 1/4 grain. On the DFX, the use of an optional smaller coil, such as the 6x4 DD, will improve matters, so will tweaking the settings: faster SAT, faster tracking, gain set to the highest stable setting, etc. But, the GMT or MXT is the clear winner, even then. BTW, I sent an AK/AZ "snowbird" I met at the MESA GPAA Show your way re: an MXT purchase for Gaines Creek. He gave me a photo of several pounds of those pesky yellow rocks taken at Gaines last year with "lesser" machines, he hopes to do better this year with an MXT. Hope you yourself do well there this year. While I am broiling in the Mojave I'll think of you (grin) HH Jim
