Jim, I agree that the GM-3, with the expanded ground balance has an edge on the earlier GM-ll and V/sat. However, for most areas, either the GM-ll or V/sat also a good choice.

I got rid of my GM-2 as it died in the Trinity range, but kept my V/sat which has been modified; both in ground balance capabilities and autotune (SAT) speed, and handles most of the more alkali areas in the Trinity. My V/sat is actually comparable to my GM-3; but also sports two independant ground balance modes.

I think that the GM-3 is underrated; it can run "too smooth," and therefore I'm sure that some detectorists try to use too much gain w/o realizing it.

However, I'm not "brand loyal," and have settled on about five different machines I use in different situations. It's a good thing I'm not into golfing; if'n I were I would need to hire two caddies to carry all of my equipment.

I will never forget the wonderful chicken dinner at Elsies. Also Jim, thank you for being a friend.

Actually, my V/sat is now well used but the original coil has really proved to be rugged. However, I have always liked/used DD-type coils and the Twin-D now my choice.
