Howdy Uncle Ron, ya' sure are braving the heat. I agree that it is difficult to avoid eliminating any coil cable from being "tugged" by brush. The slightest movement or jar will cause falsing.

Try holding the unit up in the air with arm outstretched and jiggle it like a hungry striking fish at the end of a fishing line. If it is still noisy look for a possible bad connection or cold-solder joint. I once had a noisy problem with a different machine and it turned out to be a bad solder joint. Also, on a hot day with air-temp around 100, ground temp can reach into the 140+ range and a low-flying coil bottom can pick up reflected heat. Also, on a dry hot day static electricity can develop.

I have used--- preferred--- "DD" type over the years; unfortunately by their design, they can be overly sensitive to the slightest cable coil-wire movement. Make sure to securely wrap the cable and coil for a minimum chance of movement.

Hey, Uncle Ron, I sure don't need to tell you all of this---you are very successful and have found more gold than I ever will, sorry. I guess it is the school teacher in me "popping out." Therefore I have another theory: As we all know it is better hunting "up here," in the Mojave and Basin Range areas. The creosote and sagebrush are more friendly--- kinder and gentler--- then the Sonoran cactus.

Have I ever been nailed by the chollas,! you betcha,!! So maybe this is why your coil squawks. You need to get the Sonoran "MiniDD" as it has a special lubricants to slide into the cholla barbs (Grin). Maybe Glen's cane is needed?
