As for the teachers in Maine story, yesterday evening the head of Schools in Maine suggested mildly that teachers ought to be "more sensitive to the feelings of the children of those in the called up National Guard units when expressing their anti-war sentiments in class." The State National Guard Director said that his office had investigated and discovered that the practice of attacking the children of such men and women whose units had been called up was statewide and pervasive in every school system throughout the state of Maine. Similar reports have surfaced from schools in California and several other states.

This time even CNN carried the story but only briefly covered it on their Headline News Service twice last night.

We cannot strip such scum claiming to be educators of their citizenship, but we sure as Hell don't have to pay them to do such seditious harm to innocent children with our tax dollars. Every teacher who did this should be immediately dismissed and their teaching credentials pulled for life. They have a Constitutionally protected right to speak out on any matter they wish and in any way they wish so long as they do so AS PRIVATE INDIVIDUALS OUTSIDE THE CLASSROOM! They may even present lesson plans that involve age-specific review of facts on a subject and allow the students to discuss the subject, but they have absolutely NO right to call the parents of those children who are members of the National Guard "killers" and "bad people." That is what they have been doing and it is simply wrong, disgusting and inexcusable!

If they wish to participate in one of the World Workers' Party demonstrations, that is their right so long as they do it on their own time and don't identify themselves with a school or school system. All freedoms have rational and reasonable limits as well as corresponding obligations. When they are working for the public as a government employee, they must devote their time to doing what they were hired to do - teach children the basic reading, writing, mathematic, geography, history and reasoning skills they will need to function responsibly in the adult world.

Not surprisingly, the NEA and a number of the anti-US crowd have jumped up to defend those teachers and to try to prevent any disciplinary action being taken against those who did this hideous thing to young, impressionable children of real heroes and true Americans.
