Subject: Help save the Hill of Tara from development!

Author:
Concerned Irish Dancer
[Edit]

Date Posted: 19:40:39 07/27/07 Fri

Please sign the online petition to save grounds of Tara! Visit: http://www.petitiononline.com/Temair/petition.html . People from any country can sign!

Here's what the petition says:

"To: An Taoiseach, The Irish Prime Minister
I wish to protest the planned M3 motorway through the ancient grounds of Tara. As you are aware, expert archaeologists in Ireland and internationally have pointed out that Tara is not just constituted by the actual hill, but also by the surrounding landscape, which is extraordinarily rich in archaeological monuments. This is precisely the area the planned M3 will cut through, only 1 km from the hill itself.

You are also no doubt aware that the Tara landscape is recognised as a site of not only Irish, but world importance. In particular, it holds a significant place in European cultural heritage. I therefore believe that the Irish Government has a duty to act as the respectful custodian of Tara, and all other ancient Irish archaeological sites, and to protect them for posterity and for the appreciation of present and future citizens of not just Ireland, but of all the world.

I ask you to personally intervene in this issue, and to see to it that one of the alternative routes available for the M3 motorway is chosen instead. I ask you to ensure that Tara remains completely undisturbed and that it is treated with the respect due to both a national and international cultural treasure, "

Thank you for your help!

My daughter just completed her first year of Irish Step Dancing lessons, but neither of us were satisfied with the school. Her teacher was fine, but the school is an average (at best) dance school, not specific to Irish dance, and very unorganized. I live in the Springfield MA area, and am a single parent, so I am looking for something local and reasonable. Any suggestions of reasonable, but quality Irish step dancing schools? I didn't want to go to the John Boyle, because I heard that lessons are in the bar area and patrons are allowed to be present and smoke during the lessons. Does anyone know if that is true, or if the teachers there are certified?

Date Posted: 19:41:17 01/04/05 Tue

I have had many requests for the Lance Armstrong type "LiveStrong" bracelets to be used by schools/individuals as Fundraisers
They are available in many different colors and can be imprinted/debossed with your message/school name in any color. Stores are selling these bracelets for more than $5 in some cases, If you want to order for example...1000 green bracelets as a fundraiser, it will cost your school $1 per bracelet...sell them for $2 and you will have made your school $1000 profit! No upfront money is needed as we bill you AFTER you have the bracelets
Smaller quantities are also available for as little as $1.50 each...still giving you room to raise money.
Contact me at daveg@buffspec.com if you are interested in using the bracelets as a funraiser for nationals...or for any other promotional items for nationals from Spirit Wear to mugs to bags etc
As a Dubliner living in the states I will be happy to give you an extra discount for your Irish Dance Schools ;)
call or E-mail me today for more information on how I can help 502 439-8641 or daveg@buffspec.com

As a long time reader and occasional poster on the current Irish Dancing message boards I came to the realization that what has become needed is a place where parents and dancers alike can freely exchange thoughts, opinions and information with their fellow enthusiasts in an atmosphere that supports community and the free exchange of ideas while at the same time allowing moderation and rejecting mean spirited posts.

Putting my money where my mouth is led me to create a new, free and family friendly Irish Dancing chat board. This new board will have multiple sections covering every region, major competition and even has a "For sale" section!

My goal is to allow the board to change and grow with the needs of it's audience - you! If you want a special forum added to the board that makes sense, let the administrator know and we can make it happen.

One place to go with one whole new attitude about Irish Dance. Please come visit us and start enjoying the fun and communication the way it was supposed to be!

I would love to know how well they are made and hold up. Are they easy to handle? They both look big? Any help would be great! Thanks

I just wanted to let everyone know I've updated my website (www.theredox.com) and have new wig photos! My split curl wigs are the same as those sold by other companies (BR, CC, etc.), but I have them priced much lower - especially with my school discount. Ashley is the looser curl and Meghan the tighter curl. I'm pre-selling Celtic Creations newly revamped Alana and Erin wigs. I have a shipment of their newly created Bun wig on the way. Convenient and secure online store/shopping cart. Actual shipping based on the weight of your order. I'm the mom of an Irish dancer and am in business to help you save money! Please visit my website. I sell shoes, socks and more, too! Thanks for your time!

The day of a event can be horrible if everyones hair doesn't look exactly the way you want it too.

Electric hot roller, burning yourself or them. Those cute sponge rollers that break the tips off their hair and the back breaking hour it takes you to put them in and then, using so much hairspray that their hair bonds to the rollers. Or the wig that looks like a wig!

It can be CRAZY!

By the time you arrive half of the curls have flopped and those that haven't do, and by the time their ready to compete their hair is a disaster.

You can take the guess work and the worry out of what their hair is going to look like with this wonderful hairpiece.

Let the girls sleep all night... let them take a shower in the morning... pull their hair up in a ponytail and use alittle bit of gel and hair spray to get all of the wispies... put the hair into a bun and use a couple of bobbypins to secure the bun...

Place the hairpiece over the bun and pull the strings.... until it is tight. Tie the strings like you are tieing your shoes. Wrap the strings up into a little circle and secure with another bobby pin. Add your bow and off you go!

They bounce, they shine and you will look DEVINE!

This is the answer to everyones dream when everything has to be perfect. These Curlz come in a variety of colors and can be worn other times also, school, church, weddings, dance, parties and you name it and you can wear it.

THERE IS NO LIMIT AS TO WHEN or how YOU CAN WEAR IT.

I will match the color you request.

If you have a questions, please email me immediately so that you don't miss out. Momofteengirls@aol.com

These look wonderful and make you look like you spent all day long at the beauty salon.

Competitions have started. Order one so that you will have the TOTAL Package!. You won't be disappointed!

I am very sad to say that the solo dress that I put up for sale at Nationals was stolen. It is a beautiful Cranberry pinkish-red with aqua and silver designs, approximate child's size 12. It was last seen around 4:00 pm on Sunday. Below is the link to a picture of the dress. PLEASE, if you have any information on this dress, please email me. Hotel security is investigating, but if the dress is returned or paid for, no questions will be asked. I'm hoping it is just a dreadful mistake. Thanks for any help anyone can give. One time while dancing in a feis I was pulled out of line and taken to one side. Is there any rule to say that your costume has to have applique or embroidery ONLY?

Directions to feis 12th/13th July 03
[Edit]

Date Posted: 11:41:02 07/07/03 Mon

Sorry but due to a South Tyneside MBC ruling we are unable to erect direct signs to this weekend feis: McElvogue Trainer Festival of Irish Dancing, Brinkburn Comprehensive School, South Shields, Tyne & Wear. As such we are instead placing directions on this and assorted other message boards, please accept our apologies for this but the Council only advised this afternoon that they would not allow any signs in the borough.

From the A1 or A19 follow the signs for South Shields; these will lead you to the A194 Leam Lane and the main route into the town. Follow the A194 or signs for South Tyneside District Hospital and Accident Centre until you come to the Simonside roundabout, easy to spot the 1st roundabout with traffic lights on it. At the Simonside roundabout turn right onto the A1300 John Reid Road, again follow signs for the hospital.

Follow the A1300 John Reid Road past the 1st set of traffic lights, go over the 1st roundabout, at the 2nd roundabout (Big green Lease Direct garage on your left) turn left onto Boldon Lane, go past the garage, ambulance station etc, go across the 1st roundabout (by the pub) at the next roundabout turn right into Harton Lane (another pub!). Follow the road down ¼ of mile, over the roundabout, follow the road to the hospital.

2 options:
Option 1: Take the 1st right after the hospital and turn into McAnany Avenue, the school is on your left, follow the road to the 3rd set of gates on your left, this is a teachers car park, please feel free to park there for the feis.

Option 2: continue down Harton Lane past St. Wilfreds school on your left, on your right there is a turning for Brinkburn CA, turn into the lane leading to the CA, there are 2 car parks, again feel free to use them for the feis. If you come to yet another roundabout and another pub (The Grey Hen) you have passed your turning, go back on yourself and this time the CA entrance is on your left.

Entrance to the feis is via either the main school entrance or via the CA

Again sorry about not being able to put up signs (all printed and laminated) but we have to obey the ruling of the town's council.

There seems to be some confusion regarding this years Nationals “Dinner Dance”, as a committee member please let me clarify a few things. In lew of the customary “Sit Down Dinner” and formality, we have decided to hold a “Hoedown/Shindig”. Dinner will not be served. We will serve hors d’oeuvres and snacks with the customary cash bar, thus allowing us to lower the cost of admission to $30. Our emphasis this year will be on entertainment: line dancing, impersonators and other surprises. Country/Western attire. This is an adult/mature young adult event. Hi, my name is Jessica and I work for a company called Hardshoe.com. As a new sales site we have lots of work yet to do but I think it would be worth checking us out now. Have you noticed that the price of socks keeps climbing and is now near $7.00! As Irish Dancers ourselves, we think this is ridiculous! Our socks are currently priced at $4.75 a pair INCLUDING SHIPPING! And while the manufacturer has recently increased our cost we will only be increasing the price to $4.99 a pair STILL INCLUDING SHIPPING! This will be happening on May 15th so get them now at the lower price! Also, buy more, save more. We also have great deals on CDs and ornaments and will soon have bloomers, tights and shoes – including a new, patent pending leather and neoprene padded ghillie by Feis-Mates that feels Oh, So Good! We are also always open for suggestions. So check us out at Hardshoe.com or email me at Jessica@hardshoe.com .

*Updates!*

My site, Dancing on Dreams, (http://geocities.com/irishdancers1) has had several new updates.

The dresses section has also been running a little short of dresses, so many have been selling! If you have a used dress, shoes, kilt or other dance item, come visit my site. You can then email me with the info on what you have to sell and I'll create an ad for you...free of charge. http://geocities.com/irishdancers5. Occasionally geocities will shut down this page when too many people try to access it at one time. I appreciate your patience when this happens...its very annoying I know, but please be sure to come back at a later time. :)
(Side note.....I recently got my first solo dress!! I'd love to hear what everyone thinks...pictures located at http://geocities.com/irishdancers8/mydress.html)

Bravenet is now back up and running and so my links page now works....but, I lost a great many links. I need you guys to help me add more!! You can do it yourself, and add as many as you like....simply visit http://pub35.bravenet.com/freelink/show.php?usernum=2996160248&cpv=1 - and click "Add your Link" at the top. After you hit send, the new link will appear immediately and you can add more, if you wish.

Judy Tatum's site for Irish dancing solo dresses (www.thebestdressedltd.net) has been updated. Irish dresses section totally redone with smaller pictures/thumbnails for faster loading. When clicked, each picture blows up really large and shows all the fantastic detail of each dress. Come check it out!
