Hi Michael

Thank you for your comments re. Charles' account of the Red River Expedition. I agree, the story does come to an abrupt end, maybe he was just relieved that he had survived and did not bother to make any more notes.

As far as I know he did not write any more about his adventures in Canada. He left the army in March 1873 and joined the Grand Trunk Railroad, Montreal from April 1874 to April 1875 as a Boiler Maker's assistant. I believe he returned to England shortly afterwards.

We still have his large trunk, in the attic, that he took to Canada. I'm sure I have been through all the papers but that was a few years ago when I first started the family tree, so there may be a few items that did not seem relevant at the time. The only other item in his notebook that contained his account of the R.R.E. was "A sermon preached to the Irish Peasantry" by Father Brown, it is quite long and he had copied it three times for reasons only known to himself. I also remember seeing a poem written for him by one of his comrades in Canada. Don't think it had any relevance though. I will let you know if I do find any more articles.

I did loan a book from the London Library some years ago with a full account of the Expedition, I imagine you have already read it.

Bean
