Subject: the new album

Hot damn, it's really, really good!

I'm surprised at how much it rocks. It rocks really, really hard.

I approve.

incredible? yeah, right. i'm in mourning over the loss of an incredible artist. all the echo stuff, no more of her incredible vocals. muffled sound. might be able to sell it to the teeny boppers, but i can't believe she actually made an album i don't want to buy. such a loss. you don't hear from her in forever, but you still dig her, then you find out it's over... sad...

nothing personal, Liz. following your heart is a hard road. you know: "sometimes a dream is what makes you a slave." hope you at least make lots of money.

Tsk! Pessimist! Cooler-than-thou!

I've been a fan since the days way back when, and I think the album is rad.

i'm SO disappointed in this album. i've been a fan since exile first came out and really, this is the worst thing she's ever done. and i LIKE pop music (Pink, Kylie Minogue, Madonna have all had great pop songs). But this album is just so shallow and meaningless to me. and the lyrics! her worst ever--i cringed when I heard "Favorite" and "Rock Me," with it's Xbox reference, with her yelling "young guys rule!" is probably the least interesting thing she's ever done. Sadly, there's no "Canary," "Divorce Song," "Shatter," "Shane," "Go On Ahead," "6'1", "Ride" or "Dance of the Seven Veils" on this album. I'm all for Liz having hits and getting good songs on pop radio and MTV, it's just too bad she couldn't do it without sounding like a poor imitation of Avril Lavigne.

it's not "her sound" and i can't imagine that she chose it. i always liked the way she could illuminate the edginess of everyday living. and her voice isn't something to be edited into oblivion. i found it hard to follow the lyrics because of the overall sound of the music.

I really wanted to give it a chance. I know that as an artist, she should get to try new things and I respect her right not to make the same album over and over again. However, from the three songs I've heard, it's a dud. It's especially sad knowing all of the great, unreleased material she has sitting around. I, too, like some pop music. But I don't think Liz made for it.

yeah, unfortunately much of the album is like the three samples on lizphair.com. it's too bad. "firewalker" is good. and i like a song called "a friend of mine." "bionic eyes" and "it's sweet" are both kinda interesting. and i think "red light fever" is pretty. but really, the writing isn't where it used to be. don't get me wrong, these songs are catchy as hell, it's just i don't feel like she's really saying anything with them...
there is a pretty clever line in "hot white cum"--where she's basically talking about how her boyfriend's cum keeps her hair shiny and her skin clear and she sings "without you i'm just another dorian gray" which is pretty funny.

to be honest with you, i think "down" is better than anything that made the final album. i just read that when the CD is released, it will be enhanced with a weblink to rare songs--not sure what they are, but maybe THOSE will be the songs i've waited five years to hear...
