The thing is, though the album is probably far more poppy than the others (alas, I have only heard the single), Liz's fans will still buy it. I know I will. She deserves to be played on the radio. Her sound, for me, has always been solid and has always eluded any major radio play, with the exception of "Supernova", which can hardly be called given "major" radio play.

I also tend to think that if radio finally embraces Liz, then it is a step forward for corporate radio on a whole. I once had a program director for a major "alternative" station tell me that "the only thing Liz Phair will ever be remembered for is 'Supernova'."
I would love for him to be proven wrong.

As far as $$$ is concerned, what's wrong with making some cash while, at the same time, broadening your sound and trying something new for yourself? Unless you try to do something beyond what you have already mastered, you will never grow. It's been far too long since her last album...I'm ready to hear some growth.

First of all, I was a Liz fan. This new album *is* a total SELLOUT.

To actually say that Liz should be played on the radio is a joke. Have you heard corporate radio these days? Would you really want to subject an artist *you like* to that kind of bonehead, lowest-common denominator audience? I would get so pissed if a band I respected trotted some musical garbage, just to get in good with the likes of Clear Channel.

I could support airplay of her new album IF radio was bending it's rules to allow Liz's music on, (re: the older stuff). BUT NO! Liz is bending *herself* to GET on the radio. That's just plain wrong. WCSE sold just fine with little to no airplay.

And she is turning her back on the fans that made her a respected artist in the first place. She openly admits she wants younger, hipper fans. Well, guess what? It might work for a little while, but THAT audience won't be around for the album after this one - and this album will be totally forgotten, rightly so. And I don't expect alot of her true fans will stick around after getting crapped on like this. She's getting the angle both ways - sounding like Avril (one ticket to success) and singing lyrics Avril *could not* get away with (sex always sells).

Yes, Liz deserves money for her work. I thought she had it - we, the fans who have been with her for years, gave it to her. But it obviously wasn't enough, because now she's after Top 40 bucks. I can't support that. I was going to buy it, but after hearing tracks and reading comments she's made, I am severely disappointed.
