Subject: A question of personal responsibility.

I just got off the phone with a friend of mine who voted for Gore here in Maine.
He mentioned that he thought the people of Florida were not necessarily responsible for the voting ballots they got and should be allowed to vote again.
My answer to him was this: BULLS#1T!!!
Ever hear of a little thing called personal responsibility?
You and you alone are totally responsible for casting your vote! You may NOT hold anyone else accountable in any way for YOUR mistake in the voting booth!
Furthermore, it is NOT relevant as to why you made the mistake. It does NOT matter that you didn't understand the ballot. It does NOT matter that you assumed incorrectly
about the nature of the ballot. It does NOT matter that you felt pressed for time in the voting booth. It does NOT matter that your ballot was thrown out, because you punched
two holes in your ballot. It does NOT matter that you think it matters.
If you had a problem with the ballot in the first place, you had ample opportunity to address the issue before the election, since the general population was sent copies of
the new ballots before the election was held. You also had an opportunity to ask the election officials at the voting place for help.
Regardless of who the recount favors, your mistakes are your mistakes regardless of the circumstances preceding the event.
Take some responsibility for your own actions and stop acting like a baby about it!
Also, consider this. If this voter "irregularity" was so wide spread in Florida, what makes you think it wasn't everywhere else? Beyond that, who's to say that the majority
of votes that were thrown out or mismarked weren't cast with George Bush in mind!
And don't even MENTION the electoral college as being somehow misrepresentative of the will of the people at this late date. If you didn't like it before you voted, why
didn't you lobby congress to change the system, or at least voice an opinion about it before now.
The fact of the matter is that we can't go changing the rules in mid-game.
You made your choices. Live with them!
