Subject: Role-Call? If I were you, I'd just go check on the Cavern (It is the cavern, right) every now and then. If there's a role-call, post your info. I have a bit of a walkthrough inside, I suggest you read it, Blue. I recommend this for other newbs too, altho' I dunno if it makes perfect sense.

First of all, it's good that you posted your character description. That tells everyone that you've registered at the site, and if they want to read the physical description of your character, they can do so there. Now comes the tricky part.

INTRODUCTION

Carnerik is a Role-playing forum, where you assume the role of your character described, writing how they would react to certain situations. Admittedly, most of this forum is getting to know the other people through conversation, and very little action. Action is only provided if the player CHOOSES to participate.

Now, what you need to do is keep posting. Pick a conversation, and join it, if it looks like fun. Have a look at when other people posted, and see if the pace is right for you. If it looks like they post once a week, or even once a month, it may be too slow, but some people post several times a day, which can also be difficult. Just have your character walk in (write in present tense, btw) and say or do something. Join in, and have fun!

NAVIGATION

Now, it sounds like you've read the archives a little. These can become REALLY confusing REALLY fast. While there are other methods of posting, the one that seems the most common is to post on the last sub-thread, so that the newest messages are on bottom. This can be really jumbled and confusing, but it's easy to tell where the latest messages are. (Also note that all the messages are links. Many people post inside these links, so unless you see an italics "(NT)" there is something else to read inside.) The other thing to note is that the latest topics are on TOP. If you want to find the earlier starts of a conversation, you need to scroll down. For PCs, Ctrl + F works well. For Macs, use the Find tool, and type in the name of someone in the conversation. That usually works well.

Okay, so those are some of the tricky bits. Let me make sure you've got a basics, before I say anything else.

HOW TO POST FOR YOUR CHARACTER

Once you've selected a topic thread, click on "Post a Reply to this Message" or something to that equivalent. Keep in mind that you should probably only ‘Reply to this message' (Which posts not under the main thread, but under a sub-thread, as you'll see in the forums) if your message directly replies to the other person's message. Also, because of the way this forum is set up, if you post under a sub-thread if several other main threads were already created, your message won't be seen. (I realize they're called something else, but I can't navigate while typing this. MAIN TOPICS are called topics, and THREADS are the replies underneath, okay? I'm afriad I'm not sure how consistent I am, but I hope I am making some sort of sense here.)

My best recommendation here to head back to those forums and just read for a while. Combine those examples with the rules page that you've already read, and you'll do fine. Just, be sure that your character only responds to what other characters say, and only respond to OOC with another OOC. OOC and BIC (Or just IC) are important.

Okay, that's all for now. If you need clarification, or want some more help, ask me again. If nothing else, I'll make up a character and practice posting with you. That seems to help. Practice makes perfect!

Thanks, that helped quite a bit. I've already posted in the Residential area, and have moved to the Forge with another player, so I'm already having some basic interaction. The only thing about this place is it's hard to figure out who's around and how active everything is. And getting ahold of people of authority or anything of that nature doesn't seem possible. The whole getting of the dragon thing and getting your char involved with training and everything, and the whole dragon thing, I don't know how to do that. I'm used to roleplaying, but not on a system like this one.

The more info, the better, yeh?

First of all welcome to Carnerik. Second I have some advice/words of wisdom: Unless your message is really long (like this one), don't type your message in the message box, type it in the subject box. It saves people from having to click to read whatever you've written.

I read your posts in the Residential area. Supposedly we have all live in Carnerik our whole lives so there are never any new people.

The people in charge of this site do not get on very often. I don't really blame them. Between school and extracurricular activities it's hard for them to find the spare time to post. The council is supposed to call you when it's time to get your dragon. The thing is as they don't get on very often no one has actually gotten a dragon yet (except for the council members themselves).

You don't necessarily have to train to get your dragon but I guess it would be a good idea if your character doesn't really know much about fighting. There are a lot of things you can just say that your character knows. Oh and due to the lack of posts from Fate/The Council Members/People of authority I'm helping you out by playing someone in the Forges.

Nobody's gotten a dragon yet? Hmmm. I knew they weren't on much, but I didn't know it was that bad. Well, my char still has quite a few months to even become 15, heh.

Anyway, I know our characters are supposed to have been here their whole lives, but what I meant by new, is that he's new to whatever section of the cave he's in, and he's all on his own now. I left it vague in case it was possible to be new, like if there was a special place for those training to become a member of one of the orders.

Thanks for playing an NPC...it helps making this place feel alive and active. And I just assumed that those who wanted to join an order would have to be training and studying something, so that's what he's going to be doing, because it's in his nature to...even if it's not neccisary.

And as for posting, I usually post fairly long posts, and I'm in a habit of not posting acutally in the subject box. Personally, I find that annoying, lol. But if that's how players want things here, I'll gladly try to post in subjects more.

Thanks for your help, I look forward to playing with you more, NPC or character. :)
