local taxes are used to improve the local community, state taxes are used to benefit all those in the state and federal taxes are used to benefit everyone in the country.

For a basic example, your local school receives both state and federal assistance, you as a taxpayer does not have to shoulder the load yourself. Is that fair?

Now basic politic's 101, all of these forms of government, local, state and federal are representative by elected officals. Those officals on each level represent those who elected them.

For example, if the president decides he wants to bail-out the airline industry, the insurance companies after a disaster like 911 or to invade a country under false pretenses he asks congress to approve the funding, when one party controls it all he usually gets wants he wants.

This is called the democratic process, it's all there in the Constitution.

As far as New Orleans, it is either the first or second busiest ports in the US, all the grains and produce from the mid-west travel though it's port, plus all the heavy manufacting, like John Deere for one example is shipped from there. Then consider the imnports and oil that comes in though New Orleans. So do the levee's just benefit New Orleans or a great majority of the country?

Miami is at sea level right on the ocean with a far larger population than New Orleans, can you imagine a Kartina hitting Miami? Would Miami be worth any federal funds? You can use almost any coastal city and say the same, better yet, tornado alley in the mid-west or the earthquake prone
west coast?

You see on a local scale none of these regions would ever recover if they had to reply solely on local taxes. Even a standard local town can't survive without state and local assistance without a problem even exsisting.

I do hope you get your new high school and please use it.
