I have spent a good deal of time researching and looking into kennels in the US, Italy, and Europe. This is my opinion; and I do not intend to start a fight. I am new to this webring and don't mean to impose. However:

It seems to me that both the US *AND* Italy have issues with the standard. While perhaps a MAJORITY of US breeders do not breed the CC to the Correct standard- (as I posted above, they 'americanize' them by breeding them to be larger, heavier, and without the correct head type) but that doesn't mean that ALL US breeders conduct their programs in this way- I won't name names, but looking through the kennels it becomes readily aparent who breeds for what. alot of programs are based entirely on recent italian imports (some that were judged favorably in Italy.)
Also alot of US programs DO stand on thier own merits with US bred dogs.

the same is true for Italian dogs- (although on the whole, they seem to be more consistent.) looking at italian kennels, show pages, etc, you see breeders who breed dogs who are excessively small, athletic yet compromising strength- without the look of a big game hunting/wardog/farm guardian, and who, as far as I can tell have the facial structure of a Boxer. From the literature and old historical pictures of the CC I have found, this is NOT what a CC should look like- (same with alot of US dogs)

I have no issues with the CC Italiano. in fact, I am looking into purchasing one at this time. (I already own an ACC.)

but I think that this 'dogfight' regarding breed type is detrimental to the breed. I agree with you on several points. I would not purchase a CC that is out of these kennels that have 'Grand Champion CC's'. I also have a Rottie/Neopolitan mastiff cross and alot of these 'champs' look EXACTLY like her.

however the idea that Italian Imports should be sold in the US as strictly pets bothers me. I hope in time the rift between the ICCF and SACC can be mended- it would be better for the breed- I personally do not want the CC to turn into a cliche boxer or a monstrous neopolitan look-alike.

I don't mean to be long winded, but I think this is a subject that needs to be swept out from underneath the rug.
