Hi Mikey,

A dog is a dog. Whether its bred to the American Standard or Italian Standard it's still just a big dog to strangers and a loved pet to you. My preference is the Italian. I found a little more dog aggression (and quick to ACT on it) in the American dogs. The new thing seems to be "hands off" dogs. Not quite sure why. But I have owned a couple and have been happy for the most part with them as a dog and a pet - just not what I wanted as a Corso. Although I bought them as breed/show quality CC I spayed them and placed the dog aggressive ones in single dog homes.

I also admit I like the "look" better of the Italian dogs.

Anyway, look for a breeder who will help YOU not just try to sell you a dog. Will they answer your questions? How much do they really know about the breed? (You'd be surprised how little some know!!) Why did they breed these two particular dogs together? Was it because that was the male that was available or because he really complimented the female and HOW did he compliment her? What are their female's strong points? WHat do they expect from the litter? etc etc. Do they health test? Do they do any kind of temperament evaluations? AND please!!! be careful about the contract. I see sooo many people get screwed when it comes to contracts. If the breeder's contract says you must return the dog if there is any kind of a health problem in order to get your replacement or money back...RUN.

What normal pet owner is going to give up their cherished pet they have had for 1.5 years?

Breeders who use that clause protect themselves because most people won't do that! Also, they should guarantee the dog for at least 2 years. Only pet quality pups should only be guaranteed for CRIPPLING hip dysplasia. Mild or moderate HD doesn't stop a dog from being a good pet but it certainly stops a dog from being a potential breed/show prospect! So Breed/Show quality should be guaranteed for ANY kind of hip dysplasia not JUST "crippling".

You're welcome to email me if you need help along the way or have more questions.

regards,

Alexis
