Greetings!
The above replies from members saying to take your engine to Gerry for repair, was assuming that you were our "Ray" (one of our members is named Ray) and not a non-member and would know who Gerry is. Gerry is an owner of a hobby shop in Middletown DE. Do you live in Delaware? If not, inquiring at a local hobby store for someone who is good with repairs would be the easiest route to go.
The engine most likely needs the tender coupled to the engine to run...alot of times the link between the tender and engine was the connection. With track power on and the locomotive and tender conected, try touching the wire briefly to the pin between the tender and engine. I say briefly, in case it shorts, you won't burn anything up. If ther locomotive starts to move, then you know you have to solder the wire to the tender link.
As for information on the engine, look for a makers mark. IHC, Bowser, Athearn, Riverossi, etc. that will let you know what manufacturer made it, and maybe even when.
If you have any progress, let us know!
Good luck,
Paul
