A base module build day has been set up for Sunday August 11th at 1:00 p.m..
We will meet at Keith Heck's house and spend the afternoon building base
straight and corner modules. We will talk more about it during the August
business meeting and a reminder should make the newsletter.
The base module is just the module frame with a foam platform and legs for
you to then add scenery, track, etc. We're still trying out different ideas
for the legs, hopefully we'll have a decision by the 11th. You will be
expected to reimburse the club for your base module since the club has only
authorized us to have the club own the corner and transformer modules.
Depending on the leg standard agreed upon, it will determine the final base
price. The price per module without the legs is $16.00. If cedar legs with
appropriate hardware is used, an additional $15.00 should be added whereas
if folding legs are used, then an additional $15.00 to $30.00 (depending on
model/size) will need to be added. So plan on paying a final price of
$30.00 to $60.00 for a ready to scenic module.
If you do not want to purchase one of these modules, you can build your own
module to the NDHR module specifications. I've spent over $20.00 for a
module without legs in building the prototypes, so you can save some money
by purchasing one of these modules - plus you don't have to put it all
together by yourself! The module specifications will be distributed
shortly.
Please plan to attend so we can get started building our layout! Hopefully
we will have some modules completed for Transportation Day in late
September.
