Subject: Seagulls Closer to the Playoffs with Big Road Win

Seagulls Big Win Puts the Team Closer to the Playoffs
Opportunistic defense paved the way to Seagulls win over the Fargo Freeze. The first drive of the game the Gulls went three and out. On the first play from scrimmage for the Freeze Warner threw an interception to safety Kenton Rickerson. Three plays later, fullback Brad LaCombe blasted into the endzone on a three yard run. Fargo put themselves behind the eight ball when a nine play 41 yard drive ended in a Justin Haberman interception. Mobile drove down the field and put themselves up 14-0 when Tim Lester connected with TE Tom Starck in the endzone.

Fargo made the game interesting when on the next possession Kurt Warner lobed a 69 yard TD pass to Barry Wagner. Fargo cut the lead in half with that touchdown. The score remained 14-7 until five minutes to go in the first half. Warner lead his team down the field and tied the game with a 7 yard TD pass to Alfonzo Browning. The teams went into half time knotted up at 14 all after the horrific start for Kurt Warner.

Fargo began the second half by moving backwards on an ill-fated 3 and out drive. The Seagulls took advantage and set up a 45 yard field goal for kick Mike Moser. The Mobile defense did the trick again on the next drive preventing the Freeze from getting a first down in their first two possessions of the second half. Lester a methodical 13 play seven and a half minute drive, capped by a 4 yard LaCombe touchdown run. The lead stood at 24-14 at the end of three quarters.

The game didn't get any easier for the Seagulls though because Kurt Warner lead the high powered Freeze offense right back into the game. Needing less than two minutes, Warner drove the Freeze 57 yards finishing in the Mobile endzone. This was as close as Fargo would get in the game. The Seagulls tacked on another field goal mid way though the fourth, and Fargo was unable to answer.

Five New Faces in Mobile for Louisiana Game

Louisiana has been one of the more heated rivals that Mobile has had since GM Mike Banghart took over the team. It has been a lopsided affair with Louisiana winning the first four contests. Mobile has won two out of the last three though, and look for the season sweep this year. To that GM Banghart has pulled out all the stops again this trade deadline.

Making three trades the team has added five new players to the roster. The biggest name is former Smash star wideout Richard Scroggins. Also coming for Steel Valley was cornerback DaWuan Miller. The team also acquired quarterback Jay Gruden from Mississippi, and HB Antoine Flowers from Fort Wayne. The team also added WR Anothny Anderson and G Randy Hart signed off the FA market. Scroggins is the only player like to become a starter right away, most likely as the team's third WR and deep threat.

The Seagulls GM had a lot to say about the flurry of trades, "Scroggins we felt added a much needed presences to our team. He is a smart veteran player, who adds a lot of speed to the team. My goal with the offense has been to add as much talent around Lester as possible. Scroggins gives him three top caliber options for passing plays. We still really like WR Kerry Simien, but we felt if we had the opportunity to get a Richard Scroggins we had to take it. DaWuan Miller is a player we really like too because he makes the defensive backfield a lot deeper. He will take over as the primary nickel back, and Toderick Malone will become the third safety. Antoine Flowers is another player we really like. He was brought here for depth though, and we have complete confidence in King and LaCombe as our starters. Flowers though could see time at HB and FB, but is clearly the third option for running the ball on this team. Jay Gruden has a lot going for him. We wanted to add a quality young QB to the roster when we had to give up Mike Hohensee to get Scroggins."

The GM also hinted that more moves might be in the cards for the Seagulls, but that he was happy with the way the roster looks right now. Banghart finished by noting that, "I could definitely live with this roster heading into the stretch run of the FIFL season and hopefully a run in the playoffs."
