Subject: Offensive punch not enough as punchless defense gets punched

The Steel Valley Smash made deals hoping to be able to cope with a bad run of games to end the season. The deals will help them, but not until next year. Why? The fairly reliable Smash defense caved in in Madison. Mad Dog QBs Ray Marrow and Danny Smith combined to go 15/19 passing for 159 yards in keeping the Smash off the field. New Smash QB Mike Hohensee did have a good game, going 26/38 for 383 yards and two touchdowns. "His interception didn't help us, but there were too many problems to keep us from winning this game. It was a poor performance, but we've made too many changes to have any continuity yet," Smash head coach Dan Jackson said after the game.

New WR John Elder had an excellent game replacing Richard Scroggins, catching 9 balls for 192 yards. "I was cast off as being too old and feeble, unable to help my team any longer. I wanted to try and prove them wrong. We didn't do enough to win the game, but I hope I accomplished my goal."

The biggest worry to coach Jackson was the kicking game. JD Carlson missed a field goal and he missed another extra point kick. "We're going to have to look at other options if this keeps up," Jackson noted after the game.

Steel Valley continues their campaign in Week 11 with a game at 0-10 Fort Wayne.
