Subject: Week 3 On Deck

Get it 1st in the FORUM!

note: $645 + to get my '94 Saturn back on line... won't be able to hold out for long at these rates! VIVA REAL Retirement!

[editors note ] it’s far from perfect, so take it with the proverbial grain of salt. Check into the FORUM… it is, IMHO, the better option for this league? Having fun again, unencumbered by the confines of a real job. ALAS, this can’t last long, so enjoy! Week 3 is short. I’m feeling the pinch to pay the bills, and the old lady’s wrath for fucking off… oopsey!

St Louis (1-1) at Colorado (2-0)

The Renegades have to be feeling pretty good right now. 1 tough loss to a projected play off team and a convincing W last week VS division rival Madison. Leaders stats reflect their effort: 5th Team Passing (107.1), 2nd Team Passing – Opponents (85.1), 4th Team rushing, 7th Team Rushing – Opponents, 3rd in Team Sacks (11). QB Josh Luedtke picked up the slack last week after a solid showing in the week 1 loss. Luedkte’s 117.5 QB rating reflects St Louis’ efficient offense. HB Glen Vereen, once a waiver wire p/up, is 4th in rushing. The defense is capable, arguably one of the best in the league. It gives up ground, but is tough to score on. Colorado is all about 1) HB Ricky Blake: run or catch, he gets the bulk of the touches and 2) Defense… oh, I forgot one other biggie, winning. Make the Call? STL 17, COL 26.

Honolulu (1-1) at Lincoln (0-2)

Hurricanes couldn’t drown the Wildcats, but came close? Then freeze out Fargo? Guess they’re right where they should be: a perennial playa in the FIFL play off sweep stakes! Only this time, there’s a twist. They have a GM knowledgeable about getting to the next level. Lincoln looks lost, again. QB Fourcade appears to be the only light shining in the Lightning tunnel of ignominious despair. LIN S Carlos James (Q-2 Sore Neck) may not play this week. Past seasons have Honolulu, tired from travel (in ’97 the Islanders are penalized because of the difficulties of long travel), capitulating to the average team. We don’t see that happening here. Make the Call? HON 20, LIN 18.

Fargo (1-1) at Springfield (1-1)

Fargo looking down the barrel of loaded gun: the Springfield offense?!? We miss something here? SPR DE Lawrence Hines (Q-2 Hyper-extended knee) may not play, but that’s of little consequence. Make the Call? FGO 20, SPR 24.

Portland (2-0) at Black Hills (0-2)

The Machine is re-tooling, and that is never easy in perhaps the toughest division in the toughest conference. The Machine always had the rushing game to front its’ tough defense. This season, Black Hills has rushed for 194 NRY, while giving up 236… NOT the Black Hills Machine we witnessed in the past. The offense has scored 37 while giving up 51. POR may sit S Mark M Guy and LB Jason Blevins (Q-2 Hyper-extended knee). That may hurt the defense, can the Machine stop the Portland offense? Tough call? POR 16, BLK 17.

Billings (1-1) at Wichita (1-1)

Beating an AFC opponent in a rebuilding mode is one thing (not bad for this once ultra-competitive franchise.) Tackling the Warlords at home is quite another. Make the Call? BIL 20, WCH 21.

Fort Wayne (1-1) at Austin (1-1)

Fort Wayne exposed last week as the still weak rebuilding team that it is? FWS DE Harold Williams (D-3 Hyper-extended knee) is out this week. Austin ornery this season, no one will be spared. Make the call? FWS 17, AUS 20.

Louisiana (2-0) at Mississippi (1-1)

No sense even looking at this one. The Fire Dogs dominate the Beast in their house… not matter how much GM Hanlon thinks they outa beat this team by, they lose here. Make the Call? MIS 27, LOU 19.

Mobile (0-2) at Madison (1-1)

Jai avoir faire, mon amie (Cripes, where is this crap coming from?) that your Seagulls may well set a new standard for futility this season? Hey, if that what it takes, I’d choke on it and move on. Obviously, better times loom in the future… we’re just surprised it’s come to this? The Mad Dogs will not be able to lose this one at home. MAD WR Chris Horn (D-3 Fractured rib) will not play, and that hurts. Awesome return men are a precious but fleeting commodity. Make the Call? MOB 17, MAD 24.

Dayton (1-1) at Steel Valley (1-1)

Here’s a disturbing thought: the Dayton Flyers are done as a force for a while? Don’t count on it. Smash all about their moniker this week? A win here would set this division on its’ ear. STV DT John Corker (Q-2 Strained back) sits out? Make the Call? DAY 17, STV 14, OT.
