Well, clearly the Irish Government had strong economic
and political reasons not to block the refuelling at
Shannon, apart from any covert/overt threat to US inward
investment. So maybe the US didn't need to exert any extra
pressure. However, if the rumour were substantiated, it
would add an extra element to the cabinet decision of March
19th (?) on the issue. I'm interested in finding out -
as an Irish citizen, in the interests of transparency and
accountability.
