Date Posted: 08:25:10 04/03/02 Wed Spain and Ireland have been united through the centuries by the closest bonds of friendship, of faith and of blood. In many parts of Spain today the Irishman is still greeted with the words Hermano Celta... Brother Celt... showing he is regarded as of common stock. History shows that our ancestors, the great Milesian warriors, hailed from Spain and for hundreds of years before the birth of Christ had lived there as the rulers of extensive territory. The traditional account of the Milesians traces them back to the land of Egypt. There it is said this fierce nomadic tribe dwelt in tents by the shores of the Red Sea... their leader, Niall, a powerful eastern prince. Encountering Moses and the Israelites, they treated them with the greatest kindness and hospitality, and for his generosity to the servants of God, Niall was thereupon rewarded by the recovery of his son, Godelius, who lay at the point of death from a snake bite. Moses promised him that a descendant of his would one day lead his people on a great expedition beyond the seas to inhabit a western isles where no snake or reptile could live.
