By his friendship towards the chosen people of God, Niall incurred the wrath of Pharaoh, and was driven forth from his possessions.

Thus forced to seek a new country, Niall and his people, after many perilous journeys by land and sea, came into Spain and were settled there for the greater part of three centuries.

Here, as in Egypt, they tended their flocks and cultivated the land in time of peace. but there were long and bloody wars in which they suffered much at the hands of their neighbours, the savage Goths, whom they finally defeated.

Disease and famine then fell upon the land, with most disastrous results. Tired of incessant war, the Milesians once more determined to seek a land where they could live in peace.

A council of people was held, presided over by the old and feeble warrior Milesius. Calling the Druids, he consulted the ancient books; for they had not forgotten the prophecy given to them by Moses, through their fathers, in the land of Egypt, that one day they would inhabit a far-off western isle. Little was known of that isle save that it lay in the track of the setting sun.

So the first Spanish Armada was fitted out in or about 1000 B.C. It consisted otf about thirty ships, which carried nine hundred of the best trained warriors and their wives, forming the advance guard of the expedition. Direct from Spain, in the track of a setting sun, our forefathers sailed in search of the promised land... the Emerald Isle of Destiny.

They came from a land beyond the seas,
And now o'ver the western main
Set sail, in their good ships, gallantly,
From the sunny land of Spain.

'Tis Innisfail... 'tis Innisfail:
Rings o'er the echoing sea;
While, bending to heaven, the warriors hail
That home of the brave and free.
