The day had regressed to the dark, colorless predawn state. The clouds, ominous as they were, looked as though a demented child had penciled them there. Above them, there lay color, color in abundance. But the brute trapped within the misty fog below could not fly. His piercing whistle impaled the haze, shattering the stillness like a pane of sound-proof glass.

The inexonerable steed threw his frame towards the tempest threateningly, fringe and tassel flying. He abhorred the storm that swirled around him, destroying the fauna that supported his very life, and he slashed furitively at the gangrene nothingness that so often symbolized purity. There were exceptions to everything, at least in the mind of the steed that stood, pistons raging beneath an uncontrollable pain. He longed for this heresy to end, but his cry faded, echoing softly on the cushioned humid air. He cried out again, this time for someone to associate with. He unwillingly lowered his frame, forcibly accepting the gravitational pull. He whickered sullenly.
