Date Posted: 20:17:49 12/24/02 Tue (this is a copy of the league-wide email I sent out) Ok, here's something familar: the Royals are having a fire sale (of sorts). But for once, it's to get under the cap so I can squeeze another player in. On the market for a song are Elmer "I threw one of the three no-hitters in DP last year and all I had to do was escape Colorado" Dessens and Cory Lidle, my reliable #3 last year: as I have 5 SPs without them, they would just be relegated to bullpen duty instead of the SP roles they were going to have. They make $3M and $3.75M respectively- cheap for SPs, not so much for RPs. Brent Mayne, my backup catcher, is also available for next to nothing. For any of the aforementioned players, a late round draft pick and/or low end prospect is all I ask since we can't just sell players. First come, first serve (unless an unlikely bidding war starts). Now this is where it gets tricky: I have two other large salaries which I could possibly move but the players definately have value. The first is Chan Ho Park- not a cheap salary but if you missed out on an ace, Park is 99/89/46 with pitches of 99/61/35/48. Bartolo Colon, who some of you bid more than Park's $13M for amazingly similar numbers of 99/90/47 and pitches of 99/32/66/47. Park, however, I am not giving away for free as he has much value as a front of the rotation starter. He started off the season bad but once he moved to KC, he dropped his ERA over a half point, meaning once he joined the Royals his ERA was below 3.50 and his W/L percentage was a product of this team's lack of run support. Like Park, I have someone else with value in closer extraordinaire Robb Nen, who weighs in at $8.5M this year and next. Great attributes, great statistics: pitched great last year and has the stats to back it up. If I can get some help in the bullpen in a deal or something else of value, I could be persuaded to trade him. But keep in mind, if I trade him, I'll have to go looking for another top line closer so I'm not trading him without good cause. Other things I am looking for in a deal include bullpen help and a throw-in utility IF (2B/SS type guy). I'm always looking for draft picks and prospects of quality. Seeing as I'm at my parents house, I'm not sure how feabable being at the comp will be for chat. However, I'll check my email a couple of times a day and likely will be on AIM tomorrow night (after 11ish EST) but aside from that, I can't guarantee anything. Email is definately the best way to contact me tomorrow. happy shopping, frank (KC) [ Next Thread | Previous Thread | Next Message | Previous Message ] |
